Summer Training Blog: Charlie Sweeney (Entry #5)

Entry #2: July 24-July 30

Sunday, July 24:
9.1 miles in 59:32 on a loop with Matt. Even though it was pretty hot, I still felt really good.

Monday, July 25:
9.73 in 65:01 at the park and ride. Started off slow because I spent 3 and a half hours playing basketball last night, but then sped up. It was really hot even at the park and ride... But we saw a baby deer on the run so that was cool! Paced my friend Grant for his mile.. 5:38 negative split in 108 degree heat with a 1/2 mile warm up.

Tuesday, July 26:
Had a dynamic workout- 10 WU 1 min sprint 4 mins run, 45 sec sprint 3 mins run 30 sec sprint 2 mins run 15 sec sprint 1 mins run 10 CD. All sets were x2. Felt fun to go fast, especially on some when they were downhill. Went to the gym to do some strength work; wasn't feeling my best but that's part of the process. It's probably the early morning runs to escape the heat.

Wednesday, July 27:
So I took today off for a mental and physical rest and recovery day. I almost got sick last night and used today just to replenish my body.

Thursday, July 28:
Woke up too late to go outside to run because of the heat (I'm a wimp sometimes) so I went to the treadmill. I ran 6.46 miles 45 mins. Supposed to have done 1.55 miles at the running club that I help with, but it got rained out so I did another 1.55 to get to 8.01. Felt better today, knees a little achy.

Friday, July 29: Recovery day! 8.01 miles in 62:47. I ran to my friend Julia's house and we ran together for a little bit and then I ran back. Shoutout to her for making sure I didn't go too fast! Haha.

Saturday, July 30: 13.53 miles in 95 minutes. I was supposed to have 80 minutes, but Matt was already doing the loop that we did and I kind of wanted to make up for some of the miles because I took Wednesday off. We started at around 7:25 and finished at 9....PM! It was pitch black for the last mile! It was crazy and we had to slow down so we didn't hurt ourselves by stepping in a ditch. This was one of those runs o think I'll remember when I think about high school.

Total mileage for the week (6 days)- 56.66
