Now as super sophomores, Taylor Wright and Cori Brown look to lead the Northwest girls to Montgomery County team titles indoors in 2017. Brown is the reigning 4A state champ indoors in the 300, while Wright was a 3-time state runner-up as a sophomore (55 indoors, 100/200 outdoors) and claimed the state outdoor title in the triple jump. Along with teammate Stephanie Bateky as a specialist in the all 3 jumping events, Northwest could really rack up some points in the field events.

The Northwest boys reign of dominance in 4A and Montgomery County doesn't appear to be ending this year with a loaded squad back this winter. Josh Netterville will be one of the state's fastest in the 55 meter dash (6.47 best) and can also score considerable points in the 300 and long jump. Robert Gicheru will be one of their more versatile athletes as their top returning hurdler and high jumper. Chase Osborne and Komlan Attiogbe lead a solidly packed distance squad, while Khaloni Mganga is the county's fastest returnee in the 500 (1:08.42).

Foot Locker finalist Abbey Green of Walter Johnson expects to dominate the girls distance events, while Nike Cross Nationals bound Rohann Asfaw of Richard Montgomery figures to the same in the boys distance races. Green has run under 5 minutes for 1600 and as fast as 10:37 for 3200 meters. Asfaw won the emerging elite 2 mile title at New Balance Nationals Indoor in 9:11.

Outdoor 4A state 800 meter champ Thierry Siewe of Montgomery Blair looks to thrive indoors at both the 800 and 500 meter distances, while Paint Branch's Yasmine Kass and teammate Kyra Badrian should make for a strong duo together in the middle distance events. Badrian was a surprise outdoor 4A state champ in the 800 running a 2:17 PR .

The Pyles sisters Brionne and Cierra transferring to Bullis School and older sister Alexus graduating will make the girls hurdles wide open for the taking. Similarly a big void has been left in the boys hurdles with state champ and county all-time great Shyheim Wright moving onto the college ranks at Pitt.

The 4x800 meter relay race will be deep as always with state champion caliber squads on the girls' side from Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Damascus, and Walter Johnson. The Damascus girls won 3A state titles indoors last year in the 4x800 and 4x400 without a single senior in their lineup.

James Hubert Blake is loaded with talent on the boys side, but might not have enough bodies to keep up with Northwest's superior depth. Jabari Bennett is one of the top ranked returning throwers in Maryland with an indoor best of 55'3.75" and winning 3A state titles indoors and outdoors last year. Ty Mason Jr. can jump out of the field house at the PG County Sportsplex with a long jump personal best of 23'5.50". Nathan Phillips is the county's fastest returnee in the 300 at 35.38 and along with teammate Mason Jr. has dipped under 6.60 in the 55 dash.
