We will get a chance to witness the future of the sport in the state coming up in the age group ranks from the 8 & under age group thru the middle school age groups of 13 and 14 year olds.

The 15-16 and 17-18 year old age group divisions will feature today's high school stars and looking at the initial entry list appears that several of Maryland's very best will be competing.

In the 17-18 year old girls 1500 meter run, two Foot Locker All-Americans will be competing head to head in Patuxent's Hayley Jackson and Annapolis' Maria Coffin. Jackson has a 1600 PR of 4:45, while Coffin has best at 4:56, so both could run much faster times with the 100 meter head start in the 1500. A sub 4:30 winning time is certainly possible.

Meanwhile, Kieran McDermott is coming off his scorching MD #2 4:11 1600 meter personal best performance to win the Maryland 4A state title last weekend and he will be looking to roll out a fast time in the 800 meter run at the AAU District Qualifier with his 1:53 current PR.

Franklin's Cameron Hinton was an AAU All-American last summer running a 54.83 personal best in the 400 and she will be featured in the 17-18 year old age group this weekend at Randallstown. Hinton was the 3A indoor state champion in the 300 meter dash this past February.

Another sprint star to watch will be Ashton Allen of Bullis School, one of the fastest underclassmen in the state, who will be featured in the 15-16 year old age group divisions of the boys 400 and 200 meter dash. Allen has run 21.83 in the 200 and 48.84 in the 400 this spring as only a freshmen.
