Freshman Girls: Nelle Ray, Leonardtown

Leonardtown's Nelle Ray was the team's top finisher at the Seahawk Invitational three weekends ago, where she finished 19th in her first cross country race. Her time of 20:37 in a conference meet ranks ninth among freshmen in Maryland and first when filtered by teams entered for Saturday. There are plenty of Maryland candidates, including Clarksburg's Joelle Sadd (11th on the freshman list) and Stone Ridge's Kate Walter (13th). Outside of Maryland, Bishop O'Connell's Tess Brinkman could be one of the top challengers, coming off a 21:01 performance in rough conditions at Oatlands.
