Leonardtown freshman Nelle Ray extended her winning streak to eight consecutive races this past week with a convincing victory at the SMAC Championships. She will get a chance to prove herself this week at the 4A East Regionals against Anna Coffin and company. (Photo by John Roemer)

Maybe the Green-Coffin rivalry has another chapter left? This time it would involve Abigail Green and Anna Coffin, who recently joined Green as the two girls in the 4A classification to have run under 18 minutes this season. The Anne Arundel County Championships were blazing fast overall, with three girls coming in under 18:10. Green's teammate Janet Scott came up big at the Montgomery County Championships with a second-place finish, and a top-ten finish at the state meet would go a long way toward helping the Wildcats earn their fifth straight team title.

The Walter Johnson girls have seemingly hit their championship season stride as they seek their fifth straight 4A team title, which would seemingly cement their status as one of the top dynasties the state has ever seen. However there should be absolutely no shortage of challengers coming from both Anne Arundel and Montgomery counties.
