3A Boys State Meet Preview By Event

800 Meter Run

While Oxon Hill may not have the dominant (and historic) 4x800 team that they featured last spring, senior Randy Serville is still one of the top half-milers in the state of Maryland. (Photo by Brandon Miles)

Gary Ross and Aaron Robinson are gone, but that doesn't mean that Oxon Hill's chances of winning the 3A 800 are gone - far from it. Senior Randy Serville currently sits at #7 on the state leaderboard in the event with his 1:57.62 indoor personal best from this year's Virginia Showcase.

He will match up with Milford Mill's Aariq Nixon for what will probably be their second head-to-head event of the day (after the 500). Nixon ran his MD #5 1:57.53 in late December and has been more consistent in the event, coming off of wins at the Baltimore County and 3A Central regional championships.

While those two are the only 3A boys to have run under 2:00 this season, this field isn't without depth. Reservoir's Kai Muniz turned in quite the impressive 1600-3200-800 triple at the 3A East Regionals, coming back from a third-place showing in the 3200 to win the 800. North Hagerstown's Brandon Gasaway took Serville right to the line at the 3A West Regionals, and three boys (Schlining, Booker and Decatur's Kevin Beck) ran between 2:03.28 and 2:03.55 at the 3A East Regionals.
