All eyes will be on South Hagerstown's Andre Turay in the 3A boys 55 meter hurdles. Turay was the 2A state champion in the event last winter while competing at Oakland Mills High School, but has found another level to his game as a junior. Turay has yet to lose a 55 meter hurdle competition this season, and ran one of the fastest times (7.33) in recent Maryland state history at the Washington County Championships at Hagerstown Community College. Turay will have his sights set on the 3A (and overall) state meet record of 7.20, set by Potomac's Dondre Echols back in 2012.

Behind Turay the field gets crowded quickly, as five other 3A boys have gone under eight seconds so far. Four of them come from a stacked 3A West region, including Oxon Hill teammates Daniel George and Zackary Sampson who went 2-5 at the regional meet. The only one on the list not from the 3A West region is Parkville's Fauz Adeyinka, who made the most out of his first shot out of the Baltimore Armory last week, breaking the eight-second mark for the first time.
