Franklin's Nyjari McNeil joined the elite ranks of 800-meter runners last summer with her 2:07.34 performance at the John Hay Distance Festival in June. Her indoor season included a top-ten finish in the Championship section at New Balance Indoor Nationals, so don't be surprised to see her top this list once again in 2018. McNeil and Blair's Morgan Casey are the two returning outdoor state champions in the 800, and Mount de Sales' Samantha Facius won the IAAM title last spring.

Others to watch: There are only two sophomores on this list: Oakdale's Lauren Leatherman (who did not run this winter) and Holton-Arms' Francesca Cetta, who ran a huge personal best at the 2017 Draper Invitational; only Casey, Facius and Allison Zolkiewicz finished on this indoor season's top ten, though neither of the Alexandra's (Banham or Hargrett) competed this winter.
