Starting in 2019 the Green Dragons of Maggie Walker will have a new home in 3A. This will definitely change things for them but will it stop their winning ways?
Though there are certainly many big changes coming next year, arguably the biggest is Maggie Walker's move to 3A from 2A. This team has dominated 2A for the past five years and is led by one of the best coaches in the game, Jim Holdren.
That coupled with the level of talent that they currently have means they are arguably the only team moving up in classifications that could immediately make it onto the judges stand at states.
If the Green Dragons were in 3A this year the guys would rank third while the girls would also rank third. You could make the argument though that they would have to push themselves to be better and would improve slightly due to an increase in competition.
Using MileStat's team scores we are also able to look at what next year will look like as well. In next year's team rankings Maggie Walker ranks second amongst returners. Though the guys race is an uphill battle with Western returning basically their entire team, the girls do have a serious shot at winning the 3A title for cross. The deciding factor here, just like anywhere is how will athletes progress year over year.
