With the Penn Relays drawing plenty of attention this past weekend, the Gator Invitational was the big draw in Maryland this past weekend. Near-record-high temperatures led to some blazing fast sprint times on the track, including the boys 200. Dundalk's Yourry Tapande tied Ken Nelson for the top performance in Maryland so far this year at 21.55, and the 3A indoor 300 state champion is looking strong heading into championship season.
The Oxon Hill boys turned in one of the best performances ever by a Maryland team at the Penn Relays. They ran the fastest time in the 4x800 trials at 7:40, and also ran 3:12 in the 4x400. The Oakdale boys also ran 7:50 in the 4x800, which would usually be fast enough to win the state title - they just have the misfortune of being in the same classification as Oxon Hill.
