Last year, a Calvert team with only two seniors finished third at the 2A state cross country championships. Their top finisher, rising junior Justin Diehl, finished second in that race and captured his first title this past spring in the 3200. They will have plenty of teams to deal with this fall, including two-time defending 2A champion Liberty and three-time defending 3A champion River Hill. (Photo by John Roemer)
The SMAC Championships have seen some very tight team scores on the boys' side over the past couple years. In 2015 and 2016 the Calvert boys finished in second place, losing by a combined nine points over the course of the two meets. With 2A state contender Justin Diehl leading the way, they will be looking for a breakthrough in 2017. Don't overlook the individual race either, with last year's runner-up (and fellow 2A state contender) Jay Hall leading a strong group of challengers.
