[NORTHWEST REGION INDOOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP
2012-2013

ADMISSION: Ticket price will be $7.00 for all non-competing spectators.

CONCESSIONS: There will be a concession stand provided by the Sports Complex. There will also be T-shirts for sell by the concession stand.

ENTRIES: Top 6 per individual event and the top 3 relay teams per relay event based upon the District Championships and/or any athlete that has a Region or State qualifying standard for that event.

SCRATCHES: Scratches were made for running events through Sunday, February 14th, without penalty. Scratches after that time will result in the athlete being removed from the entire meet. Athletes may be scratched from field events at any time, including the day of the meet.

SCORING: Scoring for all events of the Northwest Region Championships shall be as follows: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. The Top 6 Individuals and Top 3 relays in each event shall advance to the VHSL State Championship, which shall be held on Friday, February 22nd and Saturday, February 23rd.

FIELD EVENTS Long Jump, Triple Jump and Shot Put (Field Event Flights): Flights shall be seeded and shall consist of no more than twelve /thirteen competitors. The best-seeded competitors shall compete in the final flight. The order of competitors in each flight shall be assigned by entry mark. Flights in the field events will complete all three trials before the next flight competes. A 10 minute warm-up period will be available between flights. Field Event Finals: Nine competitors shall advance to the finals of all field events. The warm-up period before the finals shall not exceed 10 minutes.

FIELD EVENTS Pole Vault and High Jump (Five Alive): The order of competitors shall be assigned by entry mark and a continuous flight of five competitors shall be used. Starting heights and increments in the pole vault and the high jump shall be measured in inches.

PRELIMS/FINALS: Prelims for 55 dash and 55 hurdles. Heat winners plus next best times to the finals. Alleys will be used for all distance races including the 3200 meter relay.

PROTESTS: The referees decision in all matters shall be final and without appeal except in those meets for which a jury of appeals has been established for that special purpose. The Jury of Appeals then will have the final authority. In order to have an appeal processed, a coach must submit the appeal in writing to the referee within thirty (30) minutes after the completion of that particular event. In matters related to official finish images, the coach may ask to view the finish image with the referee. If an image is under protest, the referee will consult with the Jury of Appeals before a decision is rendered. The finish judge and the finish evaluators shall not be consulted.

COMPETITION RULES: All VHSL rules will be followed. High School Track and Field in Virginia for both boys and girls is governed by the National Federation Edition of Track and Field rules. The Northwest Region Championship shall apply both the VHSL and NFHS Track & Field Rules, except as modified below.

UNIFORMS: Competitors must wear the proper school uniforms or they will not be permitted to compete in the meet. All relay team members must wear the same color and design school uniform. When other apparel is worn under the school uniform it shall be of the same color for all teammates choosing to wear them. The uniform and jewelry rule will be strictly enforced.

COMPETITION AREAS: Non-competitors and coaches will NOT be allowed inside the track. All warming up prior to running events must be done outside the competition area. Individual competitors or teams may be disqualified for failure to adhere to this rule. Precautionary Safeguards: The use of any electronic devices (e.g., walkman, portable CD players, MP3 players, ipods, radios, headsets, cell phones, etc.) shall be prohibited in the official warm-up and competitive areas. The meet referee shall issue a warning to anyone wearing such a device. A second violation will result in disqualification from the meet.
