Brief Description

The 5th Annual BATTLE OF THE POTOMAC XC: MD vs VA Championship or its nickname, the XC BORDER WAR 5 returns to Smokey Glen Farm again in 2010. Singlets will be included with the first 300 Open and Seeded runners. Middle School runners will either receive a singlet or Team tee shirt. **BATTLE XC 5 STAFF cannot guarantee a specific size singlet. *The Post-Race Barbecue Chicken dinner is included in each runners' registration.

SEEDED 5K XC RACES

All high school boy and girl cross country runners may enter the SEEDED 5K races. NOTE: this race seeks to seed the fastest runners from the fall 2010 season in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia (e.g., Top 5 varsity runners on a team). Runners may choose to run in the SEEDED race or the OPEN 5K race. Both races cover the Battle of Potomac double loop 5K course at Smokey Glen Farm.

OPEN 5K RACES

Any high school girl and boy cross country runner is encouraged to register for the OPEN 5K races. Medals will go to the first 15 finishers in each of the two OPEN races. Runners compete on the double loop 5K course on Smokey Glen Farm.

MIDDLE SCHOOL 2.5K RACES

Middle School boy and girl runners may enter this single loop 2.5K course on the Smokey Glen Farm Course. Competitors run one half the distance of the high school races. All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are eligible to register and run.

Directions to Smokey Glen Farm

From I-270, take the Rt 28 West exit towards Gaithersburg. Proceed approximately 5 miles. Take a right on Riffeford Rd (traffic light) and go another 1/2 mile to Smokey Glen Farm on the right. Turn right at 2nd entrance and park.

From VA: Follow I-495 across the Legion Bridge into Maryland. Follow the left hand spur onto I-270 North. Follow I-270 north to the MD Route 28West exit. Follow 28 West for approximately 5 miles. Turn right onto Riffleford Rd. Smokey Glen Farm is on the right hand side within a half mile.

NXN Southeast Sponsorship

The top 5 boy and top 5 girl finishers in both SEEDED 5K races receive sponsored invitations to the Nike Cross Nationals SE Regional meet on Nov 27 in Cary NC. Runners' registrations will be sponsored by the American Running Association XC Club. *ARA will reimburse your registration fee and ask that you wear the BATTLE XC 5 singlet (MD, VA, WV or DC)--Psponsorship requires that you race the NXN Southeast Regional
