Team Announcements

By Carl Little, Published: May 5The Washington Post Emily Kaplan had just established herself as the top private school distance runner in the Washington area, but the first thing the Georgetown Visitation freshman did when she reached her coach was apologize. All Cubs Coach Kevin Hughes did was smile. He met Kaplan in September and since that time her commitment to her goals has been as...

The Landon cross-country community gathered just before Wednesday's dual meet with Gonzaga to honor its seniors—Billy "BK" Kuhn, Mac Hightower, Henry "Hi-Def" Duncan, Brian "The Editor" Liu, and Will "Man of the People" Christner—a core group of boys who have demonstrated extraordinary courage, commitment and leadership this season, guiding the team from the first day of a sweltering summer...

Snow, ice, rain, wind, mud, and freezing temperatures all conspired against Landon on Saturday at the IAC Championships in Derwood, Md., but the Bears persevered, earning second place honors behind St. Albans—but well ahead of Georgetown Prep—for their best conference showing in a number of years. Landon varsity cross country successfully negotiated a crowded, speed-draining course to take ninth place overall out of 39 teams in the unseeded division of Saturday's Georgetown Prep Cross-Country Classic. About Our Team

Landon School began in 1929 in a converted mansion in the heart of Washington, D.C.'s embassy row. Nearly eight decades later, founder Paul Landon Banfield's long-held belief of the importance of challenging academics, daily arts and athletics, and strong values is both respected and refined as we've entered the 21st century.

Ultimately, the success of a comprehensive education lies in the hands of our inspirational mix of teachers, young and old. Fiercely committed to teaching and to Landon School - the average experience at the school is currently 18 years - our teachers serve as role models for boys both inside the classroom and on the playing fields. We make the proud distinction that Landon teachers also coach. So whether overseeing extra-curricular activities, eating lunch together, offering a guiding hand or lending a ready ear as teacher-advisors starting in Grade 6, Landon teachers truly know their students.

It is precisely this bond that helps our faculty - in partnership with parents - gently move every boy's initial dependence on family and teachers toward a self-reliance that coincides with his level of maturity.
