Weekend Rundown: Maryland's Best Were Rainproof In Week #2

Meet Highlights & Coverage:

  • Barnhart Invitational (Race Videos/Photos) - Eric Walz puts on a show on one of his final times on his home course with a 15:27 victory winning by 31 seconds over McDonogh sophomore Dalton Hengst. MD #1 Dulaney boys look the part tallying a low score of 32 points averaging 16:08 as squad. MD #4 Loyola-Blakefield edges out DC's Gonzaga on sixth runner tiebreaker for second place. Paint Branch's Bethelehm Taye finally runs her first sub 19 minute 5K able to separate from Towson's Johanna Admiraal (2nd, 18:45) & Hereford's Sarah Coffey (3rd, 18:54) in a 18:40 win. Coffey and her MD #9 ranked Hereford squad take over current bragging rights in Baltimore County beating higher ranked squads from Dulaney (2nd, 62 pts) and Towson (3rd, 67 pts) with a team score of 47 points averaging 19:49 as a squad.
  • Howard County Invitational (Photos) - Brit Lang took down another a meet record, but this time had company with Good Counsel sophomore Claudia Wendt. Lang won the Howard County Invite in a time of 18:34 followed in by Wendt at 18:45 on the 5K course at Centennial High School. Speaking of Centennial, their girls team (82 pts) was able to defeat the reigning 3A state champs River Hill by 17 points with two top 10 finishers in Devin McIntyre and Kara Taylor both timed at 19:51. The MD #3 Good Counsel boys were 18 points better than MD #6 River Hill boys led by the race champ Jack Wavering winning his second invite of the season in 15:56. South Carroll's Brian Cave edged out Poolesville's Andrew Lent for second place with both timed at 16:21.
  • Maryland Track & Trail (Photos/Videos) - Hayley Jackson ran an impressive time of 18:27 in the morning session at Maryland Track & Trail in Elkton. Rohann Asfaw did not have the competition expected to press him (most notably Quince Orchard's Liam Walsh absent), but looked impressive winning by a margin of 23 seconds in 16:05. Thomas S. Wootton boys repeated as meet champions tallying 36 points and led by race runner-up Colin Sybing in 16:28 and three more teammates finishing among top 10. Natalia Jacobo not only helped her Broadneck team to a big invitational win, but scored an individual victory herself in the large school race with a time of 19:22 defeating MD #13 ranked Grace Dellapa (2nd, 19:48) of Wootton.
  • Spike Shoe Invitational (Photos) - John Carrol's Evan Moore (17:09) and Maryvale Prep's Emily Craig (19:06) were the individual champions for the 64th annual event. Craig's time and performance was particular impressive able to pull away from a caliber of runners such Bryn Mawr's Amy Egan (2nd, 19:43). She also led her team to victory as well with 49 points and 20:51 team average. The Fallston boys took the other team title edging out Archbishop Curley by a narrow margin of 3 points.
  • Rebel Invitational - Darren Harman defends his home course and plays an excellent tour guide to rest of field at South Hagestown winning in a time of 16:27. The Albert Einstein boys inserted 4 runners among the top 15 places to easily run away with a team title, while Albert Einstein's Ciciely Daly won the girls race by nearly 20 seconds in a time of 19:43. However, the Walkersville girls kept Einstein from sweeping the team title.
  • White Clay Creek Classic (DE) - Severna Park boys travel to Delaware for Friday invite with their team broken up into classes races. Josh Tucker leads team and meet with fastest time as 16:08 winner in senior race. Severna Park boys post 7 of top 12 times overall.
  • Bullis Invitational - First annual cross country invitational for the Bullis School.
