Maryland XC Weekend Rundown: The Final Invites Before Championship Season!

The last weekend of major invitational meets before championship season starts in Maryland was held with Frank Keyser Invite, Georgetown Prep Classic, Gunpowder Falls Invite, and the Consortia Championships as the top events on Saturday, October 17th. These final major races before the county, conference, and league championships saw times continue to drop as the weather becomes cooler just in time for the most exciting stage of the season.

October 17th Weekend Highlights

  • Frank Keyser Invite (Race Videos/Photos) - Haley Wright wins her second straight Frank Keyser Invite on home course at Boonsboro High with a 18:03 3 mile performance. South Hagerstown's Darren Harman was able to pull away from a quality field of challengers including River Hill's Trent Rose and Northwest's Branson Oduor for a 15:20 victory in the large school race. Smithsburg's Will Merritt was able to score a slight upset over Liberty's Nick Tilson in the small schools race for an 8 second win in 15:42.
  • Georgetown Prep Classic (Race Videos/Photos) - Still waiting on official results, but Dalton Hengst and Page Lester were the individual winners. Loyola-Blakefield boys and Walter Johnson girls took the team titles
  • Gunpowder Falls Invite (Photos) - Maryvale's Emily Craig (18:33) and Bel Air's Kieran McDermott (16:08) win at Gunpowder Falls with 5K PR's. The Dulaney boys win impressively without their top 6 runners, while Hereford girls win behind their top 19 performers Sarah Coffey and Kelly Shearer
  • Consortia Championships - Bethlehem Taye wins in a new course record time of 19:26 as she had to rally late to overtake Ciciely Davy (19:38). Einstein boys and Montgomery girls take team titles at Consortia Champs.
