2A Girls 3200
The opportunity is now for Oakland Mills senior Brit Lang to win that second state title that has eluded her since her freshmen year victory in cross country. Lang is the top seed in the 3200 meter run after running a Howard County record of 10:43 two weeks ago. The door was certainly opened for her this weekend with Hayley Jackson not competing in the last half of the outdoor season, but she will have her list of challengers on Thursday.
Three runners in particular are just as capable as Lang of becoming the 2A girls 3200 champ on Thursday led by Easton senior Kathryn Gearhart in her first actual track season before she heads off to the University of Maryland. Gearhart, the Eastern Shore's best runner in several years, ran a 10:54 3200 meter personal best last week at the 2A East Regional.
Meanwhile, two of Frederick County's fastest in Reilly Caldwell of Middletown and Julien Webster of Catoctin could also break thru under 11 minutes for the first time and challenge both Lang and Gearhart for the win. Webster was the 2A state runner-up indoors, while Caldwell won the Frederick County title three weeks ago in a 11:05 PR. Both were defeated by Lang last week though at the 2A West Regional.
