WATCH: Top 5 Matt Bennett Races of Senior Year

Matt Bennett began his high school career at Northern-Calvert High School in the fall of 2012, finishing 104th at the 3A State Championships as a freshman. After his sophomore cross country season he began to run year-round, and he finished tenth in the 3A 3200 at both the indoor and outdoor state championships. Between his sophomore and junior years he made a huge leap, shooting from 95th at the state championships to seventh. He finished in the top five at both the indoor and outdoor 1600 and 3200, setting the stage for a spectacular senior season.

Out of the eleven races he ran in the fall of 2015, he won eight of them, including a thrilling victory at the 3A State Championships over South Hagerstown's Darren Harman. He picked up his second state title in the 1600 at the indoor state championships, and also competed in the Emerging Elite 2 Mile at New Balance Indoor Nationals, finishing with a time of 9:25.83 (which, converted to a 3200, would be his personal best). He then went his entire outdoor season undefeated in the 1600 and above, posting season bests of 4:22.87 (1600), 9:27.01 (3200), and 15:23.46 (5000). His victories in the 1600 and 3200 at the state championships gave him four in his high school career.
