Last Saturday was one of the more humid days in recent memory for cross country racing in the Mid-Atlantic area. Last Saturday, Walter Johnson junior Abbey Green ran one of the fastest full 5K times in recent memory in the state of Maryland.

Competing in the large schools division at the Maryland Track & Trail invitational held at the Fair Hill Racetrack in Elkton, Green ran away from the field with a sizzling new PR and state leading 5K time of 17:54. The two-time Montgomery County cross country champion and sub 10:40 two miler Green had never broken 18 minutes before in a 5K cross country race.
She will be racing next at the mega Oatlands Invitational in Leesburg, Virginia this weekend with likely more competition to press her to another quick time.
