As a sophomore Johnson clocked indoor season bests of 39.99 (300) and 72.50 (500). However he truly rounded into shape last spring when he finished second in the 400 at the 3A West Regionals with a time of 49.66, the fastest among sophomores across the state. Over the summer he ran even faster, dipping down to 49.20 at the USATF Region 3 Championships in early July. He could emerge as one of the top 300/500 runners in the 3A classification this winter.
