Vote for the top boys performer from the first week of the outdoor season! There were plenty of great performances to choose from as the first week brought warm weather and some hot times on the track. Here's to hoping the momentum carries well into April and May!
Eastern Tech's Taylor Baranoski certainly came ready to run this spring. In his first race of the season he cracked 4:20 in the mile for the first time down in North Carolina at the Raleigh Relays. The now four-time state champion will be making a big push to join fellow Marylander Dalton Hengst in the national spotlight in the event this season.
Poolesville's Ryan Lockett also went down to the Raleigh Relays but it was his teammate Andrew Lent who ended up with the faster 3200 of the weekend. Lent dominated at the Screaming Eagles Invitational on Saturday en route to a personal best (and current MD #2) 9:29 victory. He came within half a second of the current meet record held by Poolesville alum and current University of Virginia standout Chase Weaverling.
One of the top sprinters this weekend was Henry A. Wise junior Anthony Lytton who erupted at the Central Invitational. Not only did he clock the second-fastest 100 of the young season (10.82), he also led Wise to wins in the 4x100 and 4x200.
Northern Garrett's Austin Evans got a head start at the Quinn Hoover Invitational, the first of the season in Maryland. He was a one-man wrecking crew, taking home wins in the 110 hurdles (15.97), long jump (19'7.50) and triple jump (41'7.50) and finishing second in the 300 hurdles (42.88).
Wilde Lake's T.J. Lyles was also solid both on the track and in the field this past weekend. He helped the Wilde Lake boys drop a MD #1 in the 4x100 at the Duckworth Relays while also picking up a win in the triple jump.
Elsewhere in the field, St. John Catholic's Dalton Nichols flexed his muscles at the Urbana Relays by launching a 164'2 discus throw - almost 30 feet better than the next boy on the leaderboard so far. Similarly Sherwood's Renaldo Smith dominated the triple jump last week when he set a new personal best at 47'2.50 in a win at the Screaming Eagles Invitational.
