Is Sydney Banks on The Verge of Breaking 6ft?

Osbourn Park junior Sydney Banks is quickly becoming the best high jumper in the nation. She owns a personal best of 5-11 and is looking to become the second Virginia girl all-time to break the six-foot barrier.

This weekend she will be competing unattached at the Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic. She will face some competition but their aren't many six foot jumpers around to push her hard. That means the pressure will be on her to start entering at much higher heights and be attacking the bar alone.

Her 5-10 indoor best was jumped last year as a sophomore at the 6A indoor meet where she went on to win the title. Outdoors she went 5-11 for a new personal best at the Northern Region Championships. Indoors she also finished 4th at New Balance Nationals with a 5-8.75 clearance.

Currently, Sydney sits at #3 all-time with her 5-10 indoor clearance. The two marks ahead of her are 5-10.5 (Tynita Butts) and 6-1.25 (Paula Girven's state record).
