It seems as though the sky is the limit for Ryan Lockett. Now two years into his meteoric rise to the top of Maryland's distance running scene, Lockett continues to improve. His most recent achievement? A 4:10.96 full mile against collegiate athletes at last weekend's George Mason Last Chance Meet.

In MileSplit's performance database that dates back to 2000, only Dalton Hengst and Matthew Centrowitz have run faster in the 1600/mile indoors. Lockett entered the season with a personal best of 4:16.59 in the mile (from last year's Viking Invitational) but has run three races faster this winter: two 4:13 efforts at the AT&T Coaches Hall of Fame Invitational and the Millrose Games, and now 4:10.

In a span of a couple of years Lockett has put himself in the conversation of best distance runners the state has scene this millennium. Along with a 4:10 indoor mile, he also boasts an 8:24 3000 from last year's Penn Relays, where he finished second. And he's not even finished with the indoor season - he races next weekend in the Championship mile at New Balance Indoor Nationals.
