Delgado, Ponder, Moerk Head To Music City Distance Carnival

Ian Delgado (Green Hope), Cameron Ponder (Mount Tabor) and Michael Moerk (Mount Tabor) head West to the Music City Distance Carnival eyeing some fast postseason times.  The meet will feature some of the top distance runners on the Eastern half of the United States, as well as 12 Olympians and 90 former NCAA All-Americans.

The meet gets underway tonight, but Delgado, Ponder and Moerk will all race in the Elite portion of the meet Saturday night.  Full meet preview from FloTrack.

Delgado will race first in section 3 of the Elite 800 against Professional and Collegiate stars.  Delgado enters the race with a PR from the indoor season of 1:51.06.  This should be a quick race with a lot of athletes looking to dip under the 1:50 barrier.  Delgado will look to be the fifth North Carolina High School athlete in North Carolina history to break 1:50.  He recently proved his fitness with a double 1600 & 800 win at the NCHSAA 4A State Championships.  Delgado will also look to break Jayquan Williams' school record of 1:50.50 set in 2016.  The event will take place at 7:55 PM Saturday night.

Ponder and Moerk will race in a loaded High School boys Mile that is going to likely be the fastest HS Mile in the country this year.  Brodey Hasty (TN) and Josh Hoey (PA) are both eyeing the 4:00 barrier, so the pace will certainly be fast with other stars like Dalton Hengst (PA), Ryan Lockett (MD), and Carter Cheeseman (TX).  Ponder enters the meet with a 4:10.98 Mile PR and Moerk with a 4:17.88 PR.  Ponder will look to take down his school record of 4:09.73 (full Mile) by Matt DeBole from 2002.  The event is scheduled to take place at 9:20 PM on Saturday night.
