Preseason PA#1 West Chester Henderson boys started their title run with a strong opening weekend performance at home over PA#10 Unionville, with all four of their duos running under 22 minutes. The team of Quinn Devlin and Ian Barnhill of Downingtown West had the fastest time of the day, running 20:56.
 
Preseason PA#6 Downingtown East girls got off on the right foot with a win over Unionville. The duos of Sarah Black/Biz Weller and Kate Koser/Corinne Lillis ran the 2nd and 3rd fastest times of the day. The fastest belonged to Henderson's team of Janie Augustyn and Leigh Manning-Smith, running a combined time of 24:55.

Strong pack performances boosted both Chambersburg boys and girls teams over Carlisle. Alayna Merkle, McKenzie Doyle, and Maeve Charlesworth sweep the first 3 places and finish 3 seconds apart at their home invitational. Merkle ran 15:49.1 for 2.35 mile course.
 
Chambersburg placed six in the top 14. John Pope (photo by Timothy O'Dowd) of Carlisle was victorious in the boys race, running 12:39.9 over Gettysburg's Michael Beegle. The host school placed four in the top seven, and five in the top 11.

Nazareth girls knocked off preseason PA#9 William Tennant, Bangor, and Pocono Mountain East 51-73-75-78. for the AAA girls team title. Nazareth scored four in the top 10, led by a 2-3 finish by Hannah Fuller and Abigail La Bar. William Tennant's Annie Aerias was the top AAA individual in the field, running 19:39. Northwestern Lehigh girls finish 1-3-7-9-10 to cruise to the AA girls team title over Notre Dame Green Pond and preseason AA PA #3 Saucon Valley. Lindsay Kerr led the charge with the fastest time of the day, running 19:16.4 to outlast Tamaqua's Amber Carroll (19:21.7).
 
Nazareth Boys followed the lead of their girls and won the AAA boys team title over Wilson Area 44-68, led by a 3rd place finish from Luke Mynyan. Whitehall's Matthew Kacyon ran the fastest time of the day with a 16:21 over runner up Justin Berger of Wilson Area. Notre Dame Green Pond comfortably won the AA boys team title with a 1-2 finish by Bryan McGee (16:34.7) and Eric Busher (17:16.9), and with six in the top 17.

Preseason PA#3 Norwin girls and Baldwin boys took home team titles in very strong fashion at hilly Boyce Park. Baldwin took the win with 22 points, with all five of their scorers finishing in the top nine. Baldwin's Matt Cecala won the race in 17:08 to break the course record set by Baldwin alum David Adley in 2007. Norwin girls were missing their 2nd runner this week, but won their race with 33 points, taking three of the top four places. Jenna Gigliotti earned her first victory of the season, running 20:24 to overtake Hillary Boxheimer of Bethel Park.

35th Cliff Robbins Invitational

Reigning individual state champion Jess Cygan and Preseason PA#2 Liberty girls came flying out of the gate with their 28 point performance in the girls race. Liberty finished with four in the top six led by Cygan's 19:16 and teammate Amy Darlington's 19:56.

Dallas Area boys took command of the boys race with 86 points to take the team title. Mitch Cohen led the charge with a 3rd place finish in 17:14. Wyalusing senior Taylor Woznicki won the boys individual crown with the only sub-17 minute performance with a time of 16:59.

The host McDowell boys came away with the team title with 95 points, 20 points better than preseason AA PA#4 Fairview and 31 points better than AA PA#5 North East. McDowell used a 40 second spread between their first runner Brayden Romeo (14th) and their fifth runner Scott Petersen (26th). General McLane's Morgan Elliot (photo by Carl Strub) took the individual title, winning in a solid 16:07.6, just under seven seconds better than North East's Alex Beardsley.
 
Emily Giannotti of Coudersport made an impressive 2009 season debut, running 18:59 and defeating the field by 23 seconds. Dani Kocjancic of Kane Area and Elesia Wilson of Meadville were the only other girls to break 20 minutes on the day. North East took home the girls team title over Butler 90-100, supported by a 3-7 finish from freshman Anne Lewis and sophomore Katie Perkins. Preseason AA PA#4 Union City finished in 6th place on the day.

California University of PA
 
Canon-McMillan came home with both team titles with each team placing four in the top ten. The boys were led by individual winner Travis Arrigoni who took the crown in 16:19 over Cameron Coffey of Brownsville. The girls were led by a 2-3 finish from sophomore Erica Regoli (20:19) and junior Brittany McCall (20:23). Mansfield junior Susan Learn took home the individual crown with the only sub-20 minute performance of the day in 19:58.

Sayre girls and Archbishop Curley boys take home team titles with solid team performances. Sayre had three girls finish 4-5-7 to lead the pack in the 12 point victory over Williamsport. Katie Sick of Millville took home the individual title with a 19:06.60, over a minute faster than the field. The Archbishop Curley boys overtook Canton by 20 points by placing three in the top four, including a 1-2 performance from winner Alex Waldt (16:23.64) and runner up Dave Ozarowski (16:55.01).

Preseason PA#8 Altoona boys took the first three places to win the team title with 25 points. The trio of junior Wade Endress (finish photo by Jayson Jackson) (16:09) and seniors Chris Fischer (16:25) and Jordan Liberman (16:29) were separated by only twenty seconds. Altoona's 1-5 were separated by only 60 seconds on the day.
 
Preseason PA#7 State College girls slipped past 2008 AA girls 3rd place finisher and unranked Lewisburg Area 69-72. State College junior Chloe Schmidt (19:28) placed second overall and led her trio of three in the top 10 (2-4-9) for the victory. Hannah Bowen was Lewisburg's top finisher with an 8th place finish. Forest Hills Leah Anne Wirfel took home the individual crown in a big way, winning in 18:40, 48 seconds ahead of the field.

The boys got off to an impressive start to the new season by placing six in the top eleven to take the boys title. Zach Barker (16:52.65) and Nate McClafferty (16:59.03) led the pack with their 1-2 finish. On the other hand, the girls squeaked by Boyertown 51-53 to win the girls title. Boyertown's Elizabeth Simpson got her 2009 season started on the right foot with a one minute victory over the field, running 19:26.32.

The Easton Boys and the Bethlehem Catholic Girls took home team titles in the six team invitational. Bethlehem Catholic were led by a 2-3-4 finish and five in the top twelve overall for the win over Easton 31-46. Caitlin Perry of host school Northampton was the first girl to cross the finish line, winning in 19:34.3. Easton's Bernard England (16:56.2) led five in the top seven and seven in the top twelve for 21 points.
