This Decade in Review: Top 500 Girls in the 300

If this past winter was the last season of Isabella Whittaker's high school track career, she truly went out with a bang. Her only loss of the season came in a runner-up effort in the 300 meter dash at the Millrose Games, where she became the first and only girl this decade to break 38 seconds in the event. Only Huntingtown's Shania Collins ever even broke the 38.50 barrier. What heights could Whittaker reach going forward at the University of Pennsylvania?

Olivia Ekpone was the first Maryland girl this decade to break the 40-second barrier in the 300 meter dash back in January of 2011. One of the most accomplished track runners in Maryland state history, Ekpone won an incredible 12 individual state titles in the sprints with Thomas S. Wootton and Northwest high schools, along with more as a member of relays. Ekpone competed collegiately at Texas A&M University where she won multiple SEC titles and qualified regularly for the NCAA championships.
