MPSSAA Postpones Fall and Winter Sports

The MPSSAA has decided to postpone both the fall and winter sports seasons due to concerns with the effects and spread of the coronavirus.

The news came around midday on Monday, August 3rd, following news earlier in July that several individual school systems had already taken their own measures. Both Montgomery and Prince George's counties had already cancelled fall (and, in Montgomery County's case, winter) sports, while Baltimore, Anne Arundel and Howard counties and the IAAM/MIAA had postponed the starting dates. The WCAC has also cancelled fall sports this year.

The news that the fall season has been postponed leaves the door open for fall and winter sports this season, albeit under an adjusted schedule. Both the Virginia High School League and the D.C. Interscholastic Athletics Association have announced plans for a 2020-21 sports schedule that involves three shortened seasons, beginning with winter sports in December, followed by fall sports in February and spring sports in April.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates, both on the state and local levels, regarding the high school sports schedule.
