California athletes produced 97 top-10 finishes, 12 individual titles and two national age group records over four days at the AAU Junior Olympics in Satellite Beach, Florida.
Sadie Engelhardt of Ventura set a national age group record in the 14-year-old 1500-meters and Victor Jaimez-Solorio set a national record for 9-year-old boys in the 1500-meter race a year after setting the four-lap record in the boys 8-under division.
While Engelhardt and Jaimez-Solorio were double winners and record-setters, Brooklyn Ross of San Bernardino and Long Beach Sprinters, swept the three sprint titles in the boys 11-year-old age group.
Jasmine Wilson of Lakewood, won the 100m and 200m titles in the girls 8-under age group. Taye Newman of Artesia and Pacific Coast Shockwaves also claimed two titles, winning the 800m and 1500m in the boys 13-year-old age group. The other individual champion was Chiara Bonomi of Los Gatos, who won the 3000m title for 13-year-old girls in a dramatic sprint finish.
