Taking a Look at New MPSSAA 21-23 Cross Country Realignments

3A Regions

3A West

Two more teams join the 3A West region, bumping the total from 11 to 13 and adding a seventh state qualifying slot from the region. The biggest addition to the region is Oakdale, the defending 2A boys state champions and both state contenders going forward on both the boys and girls side despite the bump up in classifications.

3A North

3A North stays about the same, swapping out Dundalk for Digital Harbor.

3A South

The defending boys champions from North Point are back in the 4A classification after just two seasons in 3A South. Also following North Point out the door are Northeast and Easton, each moving down to 2A. The newly-created Crofton High School is the only newcomer, reducing the number of state qualifying teams from six down to five.

3A East

The only change is a big one, swapping out Howard for Hammond. The Howard girls are immediately the favorite in a region that also includes powerhouses like Centennial and River Hill, and the Howard boys have shown to be contenders in the past. Howard County now has no 4A teams, and the 3A East region will once again almost be a team-for-team rematch of the county championships (minus Glenelg, Hammond and Oakland Mills).
