Taking a Look at New MPSSAA 21-23 Cross Country Realignments

2A Regions

2A West

Gone are traditional state contenders and qualifiers in Boonsboro and Oakdale (along with Seneca Valley), and enter Anne Arundel schools Northeast and Southern to keep the number of state qualifying spots at six. The loss of Boonsboro and Oakdale will likely even out the 2A regions a bit after 2A West was once again a slaughterhouse in the 2019 fall season.

2A North

After a couple seasons in the 3A classification, Hereford will be rejoining the 2A North region and should retake its spot as the overwhelming favorite in the region going forward.

2A South

Southern shifts from the 2A South to 2A West region to join Northeast, but an influx of Prince George's and Southern Maryland schools raises the total number of teams from ten to 12 and the number of state qualifying spots from five to six.

2A East

Fallston bumps down to the 1A classification for the first time in nearly three decades, but Easton's return after two years in the 3A classification keeps the team total at 11 and prevents a loss of a state qualifying spot.
