Week in Review: Maryland HS Indoor Track, Dec. 6 to Dec. 11


Seven different teams across Anne Arundel county came together for the first AACPS Inter-County Meet of the indoor season. The meet was hosted by Broadneck Senior High School on their home turf. 


Sprints

55 Meter Dash

Broadneck Senior's Chase DeJesus was the winner by a very close margin. DeJesus won the event in a time of 6.74. Glen Burnie's Jason Tran (6.75) and Crofton's Allen Gottlieb (6.77) finished second and third, respectively.

Crofton went 1-2 on the girls' side. Miya Green led the duo with a first-place finish of 7.79. Her teammate, Kendall Hall, finished second in a time of 7.92.

300 Meter Dash

Crofton's Allen Gottlieb was the clear winner in the 300m event after a time of 37.01. His performance is a current MD #6. The next two spots were taken by Southern-AA athletes, Hayden Myers (38.06) and Travis Groves (38.74). For the girls, Southern-AA's Hannah Burgee won the 300m event after a time of 44.69. 

500 Meter Dash

Broadneck Senior's Bryce Greenlee won the event in a time of 1:16.50. He was followed by two Southern-AA athletes: Jake duCellier (1:17.12) and Cameron Hegarty (1:17.79). 

Southern-AA's Hannah Burgee won her second event of the day. Burgee ran a time of 1:26.95, which is a top 10 performance in the state. 

Distance

800 Meter Run

The Southern-AA boys completely swept the 800m race after going 1-2-3-4. Connor McKee led the pack with a first-place finish of 2:14.17. This performance is a top 15 time in the state. His teammates, in order, followed close behind: Jake duCellier (2:17.54), Eric Penkala (2:18.61) and Christian Bingley (2:19.20). 

Southern-AA's Hannah Burgee won her third event for the day. This time, her first-place performance was in the 800m event where she ran a time of 2:41.02. 

1600 Meter Run

 Southern-AA's Connor McKee won another event at the meet. He led the 1600m event with a first-place performance of 4:58.32, which is an MD #11. Crofton's London Layton finished less than a second behind with a time of 4:59.29, which is an MD #12. McKee and Layton were the only two athletes to break the 5-minute barrier at the meet. For the girls, Crofton's Emily Boniface won the event with a time of 5:54.03. Boniface was the only girl to run sub-6 at the meet.

3200 Meter Run

The Southern-AA boys continued their streak of dominance as another one of their athletes won an individual title. This time, it was Christian Bingley in the 3200 event with a finish of 10:52.93. Crofton's Jackson Lastowski, a freshman, finished second in 10:56.01. Bingley and Lastowski were the only athletes to break 11 minutes in the event. To add, Bingley ran an MD #15, while Lastowski ran an MD #16.

Regarding the girls, Crofton's Emily Boniface won another distance event at the meet. She finished first in the 3200m run with a time of 12:42.10. Broadneck Senior's Lucy Nathan followed behind in 12:52.50. Boniface and Nathan were the only two girls to run underneath the 13-minute mark. 

Hurdles

55 Meter Hurdles

Crofton's Tyler Vuong (1st, 8.59) and Southern-AA's Travis Groves (2nd, 8.66) completely dominated the 55m hurdles event. Both boys were the only two to run underneath both the 10-second and 9-second margin. To add, Vuong ran an MD #7 while Groves ran an MD #8. On the girls' side, Crofton's Elizabeth Collins was the champion in a time of 10.27. She became the sole girls' competitor to break 11 seconds in the event. 

Field Events

High Jump

Crofton went 1-2 in the event for the boys. Tyler Vuong led the duo with a performance of 5-08.00. His teammate, Mekhi Garner, finished second after a performance of 5-02.00. On the girls' side, the Crofton team went 1-2-3: Victoria Marston (1st, 5-00.00, MD #4), Mackenzie Cooke (2nd, 4-04.00) and Grace Grizzell (4-02.00). 

Long Jump

Old Mill's Oluwatimilehin Olayinka had an MD #9 performance of 18-05.00. For the girls, Kennedy Atkins from Annapolis won with a mark of 15-03.01, which is a current MD #10. 

Triple Jump

Old Mill went 1-2 in the TJ event. First, Aidan Kress won the event with a mark of 40-06.00. His performance was also an MD #2. His teammate, Oluwatimilehin Olayinka, finished second in a time of 37-08.00. For the girls, Crofton went 1-2-3:  Elizabeth Collins (1st, 30-00.00), Jordan Mueller (2nd, 28-05.00) and Amanda Druid (3rd, 26-04.00). 

Pole Vault

Three boys tied for the highest height, which was 8-06.00: Crofton 's Jeremy KlasmeierSouthern-AA's Christian Bingley and Crofton 's Chase Severtson. For girls, Crofton's Elizabeth Collins was the winner with a height of 8-00.00. Her performance was an MD #11. 

Shot Put 

Old Mill went 1-2 with Jordan Lindsey (1st, 46-00.00) and Jaylin Braxton (2nd, 44-10.50). Lindsey's performance is the third-best in the state, while Braxton's is the fifth-best in the state. Like Old Mill, Crofton also went 1-2 in the event. Shayna Alton led the duo with a distance of 31-02.00, which is an MD #6. Her teammate, Abigail Makela, finished second with 29.04.00.

Team Scores

It was a complete sweep by the Crofton team for both titles. They scored 228 points for the girls and 218 for the boys. No other team broke into the 200s.
