Over 50+ different teams from states like Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Ohio, North Carolina and more came together for the 2022 757 Showdown. The meet was hosted by Champion Speed Development at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, VA. The meet kicked off the new year as it became the first Maryland meet of 2022. 

Sprints

60 Meter Dash

South Hagerstown's Cole Schlotterbeck was the first Maryland finisher in the event after a time of 7.21. Right behind him was Bullis' Oliver Bridges also with a time of 7.21. The third Maryland finisher was Winston Churchill's Langston Major with a new indoor PR of 7.24. These athletes finished sixth, seventh and eight, respectively. 

On the girls' side, Henry A. Wise's Saniya Simmons was the first Maryland finisher with a new indoor PR and MD #1 of 7.90. Archbishop Spalding's Jálaia Creary finished behind Simmons in a time of 7.97, which is an MD #3.

200 Meter Dash

For the 200-meter dash, it was a Maryland sweep. Maryland athletes dominated the race, taking spots 1-6. Senior Talil Atkins led the way, finishing first in a time of 22.22. His performance is an MD #2 and a top 20 time in the nation. Green Street Academy's Daysen Shell followed in second with a time of 22.31, which is an MD #3 and a top 30 time in the nation. In third was South Hagerstown's Cole Schlotterbeck with his second top 3 performance for the day. Schlotterbeck finished in a time of 22.45, which is an MD #5. The next couple of athletes finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively: DeMatha Catholic's Sage Phillips (22.66); Riverdale Baptist's Alonzo Sims (22.67); and Winston Churchill's Langston Major (23.02). All sixth athletes rank within the top 10 in the state for the event. Another notable performance comes from Walter Johnson's Quentin Williams in a time of 23.17, which is a current MD #11.

For the girls, Maryland took the top two spots after the Bullis girls went 1-2 in the event. Myla Greene led the duo with a new MD #2 of 24.96, which is a top 20 performance in the nation. Her teammate, Sage Hinton, finished second with a time of 25.12, an MD #3 and top 25 performance in the nation


300 Meter Dash

It was another Maryland sweep for the 300-meter event. This time, Maryland athletes went 1-2-3-4. Once again, Talil Atkins led the way with his second first-place finish at the meet. Atkins finished first in a time of 35.19, an MD #4 and a top 20 time in the nation. Riverdale Baptist's Alonzo Sims finished right behind Atkins in a time of 35.20, an MD #5 and a top 20 time in the nation. Henry E. Lackey's Edwin Hall was the third-place finisher in a time of 36.00, while Old Mill's Joseph DeRosier finished fourth with 36.27. All four athletes rank within the top 10 in the state for the event. 

On the girls' side, Mercy's Madison Parham made the top ranks after a third-place finish of 42.10. This performance is an MD #10

400 Meter Dash

Riverdale Baptist's Alonzo Sims performed exceptionally well in the 400-meter event. Sims took first place with a time of 49.76 and became the only athlete at the meet to run sub-50. This performance is an MD #2 and a top 15 time in the nation. Maryland continued to dominate the top 5 with DeMatha Catholic athletes coming in at third and fifth place. Sage Phillips led the team with a time of 50.39 (MD #4), while his teammate Dawson Grogan finished with a time of 50.87 (MD #6). 

Bullis' Morgan Bridges was the first Maryland athlete to finish with a new MD #2 of 1:01.07. Other notable performances from Maryland athletes came from Jaylin Hayes-Moore (MD #4, 1:01.65); Archbishop Spalding's Jálaia Creary (MD #5, 1:01.70); and Mercy's Madison Parham (MD #6, 1:01.72). 

500 Meter Dash

Milford Mill's Korede Otusajo had an incredible performance in the 500-meter event. Otusajo finished first with a blistering time of 1:04.23, which is an MD #1. This performance is also a US #3. Otusajo had battled it out with Talil Atkins, who finished second with a time of 1:06.53, which is an MD #2 and US #9

Maryland athletes, specifically Bullis athletes, took spots 3-5 in the event. First, Lauren Leath ran a new MD #1 of 1:16.35, which is also a US #9. Her teammates, Myla Greene and Sage Hinton, followed close behind. Greene ran a new MD #3 of 1:17.20, while Hinton ran a new MD #4 of 1:18.16. Both athletes finished within the top 15 in the nation

Distance

800 Meter Run

Milford Mill's Korede Otusajo came in swinging with his second first-place performance of the day. Otusajo won the 800-meter event with a new MD #1 and US #3 of 1:54.65. In third place was DeMatha Catholic's Dawson Grogan with an MD #2 and US #6. Other notable performances in the event were from Glenelg's Timothy Cherry (1:59.35), Henry E. Lackey's Edwin Hall (1:59.73) and Aberdeen's Daniel Wilson (2:02.21). All four of these athletes rank within the top 10 in the state.

Bullis' Lauren Leath had another impressive performance at the meet. This time, it was in the 800-meter run. Leath won the race with a new MD #1 of 2:18.21, which is a top 20 time in the nation. Two other notable performances from Maryland athletes came from Urbana's Emily McDonnell (MD #5, 2:23.86) and Glenelg's Kaila Spence (MD #9, 2:26.72). 

1600 Meter Run

Glenelg's Timothy Cherry had another top performance at the meet. This time, he finished second in the 1600-meter event with a new MD #1 of 4:19.69 and top 20 time in the nation. Cherry ranks first in the state with a lead of about seven seconds. To add, he is the only athlete to run underneath 4:20. Three more Maryland athletes finished in the top 10 at the meet: James M. Bennett's Timothy Synowiec (MD #2, 4:26.60); C. Milton Wright's Ashton Tolson (MD #6, 4:28.34); Richard Montgomery's Noah Fisher (MD #8, 4:30.92)

For the girls', another Glenelg athlete became the first Marylander to finish in the event. Kaila Spence finished third in an MD #11 of 5:28.86.

3200 Meter Run

Arundel's Tucker Sangster dominated the 3200-meter event with a new MD #1 and US #3 of 9:20.74. Sangster now holds the number one ranking in the state by approximately six seconds. James M. Bennett's Timothy Synowiec also had an impressive performance, finishing third with a new MD #3 and US #9 of 9:27.15. Two more Maryland athletes filled up the top 5: C. Milton Wright's Ashton Tolson (MD #6, 9:29.73) and Northern-Calvert's Gavin Stevens (MD #15, 9:56.44)

On the girls' side, Edgewood's Delaney Saulsbury finished third in the event with a time of 12:05.97. This performance is a top 15 time in the state

Hurdles

60 Meter Hurdles

Maryland swept the 60-meter hurdles events, taking spots 2-6. Tyree Newman dominated the race with a new MD #1 of 8.53. To add, Newman is the only athlete in the state to run under 9 seconds for the event. Archbishop Spalding's Chancellor DeRosier finished behind Newman to take second place with an MD #3 of 9.17. The next Maryland athlete to finish was Severna Park's Brandon Kiefer with an MD #4 of 9.55. The following Maryland athletes were Mergenthaler Vocational's Justin DeVaughn (MD #8, 10.22) and Calvert Hall College's Ramon Valentine IV (MD #14, 10.85)

Maryland girls went 1-2 in the event. Bullis' Myla Greene led the duo with a new MD #1 of 8.64, which is a US #6. Aniyah Fersner followed in second with an MD #2 of 9.79. Other performances came from Mergenthaler Vocational's Dominique DeVaughn (MD #5, 10.78) and Severna Park's Alaina Kiefer (MD #11, 11.33).


Field Events

High Jump 

Mergenthaler Vocational's Vaughn DeVaughn III finished second and tied for a new MD #2 of 6-00.00. His teammate, Justin DeVaughn, finished third and tied for an MD #6 of 5-10.00.

Long Jump 

Maryland took over the long jump event with four spots in the top 5. First, Tyree Newman continued his winning streak with another top performance. This time, he won the long jump event with a new MD #2 of 21-10.75. Oxon Hill's Jevon Johnson followed in second with an MD #7 of 20-07.25Mergenthaler Vocational's Justin DeVaughn and Archbishop Spalding's Chancellor DeRosier finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Both athletes finished within the top 15 for the state. 

Pole Vault

Severna Park's Brandon Kiefer set a new MD #8 in the pole vault event after a second-place performance of 11-11.75. Tyree Newman broke into the ranks once again with a third-place performance of 9-00.25.
