Week in Review: Maryland HS Indoor Track, Jan. 1 to Jan. 9



Over 50+ different teams from states like Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York more came together for the 2022 Kevin Dare High School Invitational. The meet was hosted by Penn State University at the Multisport Indoor Facility in State College, New York. 

Sprints

60 Meter Dash

Oakland Mills' duo of Trevin McHargh and Shane King represented Maryland well in the 60m event. Both athletes qualified for the finals where they both had indoor PRs. McHargh led the duo with a fourth-place finish of 7.14, which is a new MD #1. His teammate, King, finished right behind him in fifth with a time of 7.15, which is a new MD #2

Oakland Mills' Aliya Murray had a top 10 performance in the event with a season-best of 8.17, which is an MD #9. Urbana's Haley Smith was the second Maryland athlete to cross the finish line. Smith finished within the top 15 with an MD #10 time of 8.29

200 Meter Dash

Oakland Mills continued to take over sprinting events with Judson Lincoln IV's dominating performance in the 200m event. Lincoln won the event with a blistering time of 21.63, becoming the only athlete at the meet (and in the state) to dip below 22. Lincoln improved on his own MD #1 in the event and now holds a US #2. His teammate, Shane King, had his second top performance at the meet. This time, King finished fourth in the event with a season-best of 22.41. This performance is an MD #4.

The first Maryland girl in the event was Oakland Mills' Aliya Murray. Murray had her second top 10 performance at the meet with a time of 26.85 in the 200m event. This performance is a top 15 time in the state

400 Meter Dash

Once again, Oakland Mills' Judson Lincoln IV was at the top of the leaderboard. Lincoln IV completely swept the competition with a winning time of 47.90. His performance easily serves as an MD #1 after becoming the only athlete in the state to dip below 49 AND 48 seconds. To add, his time is a US #2 where he is one of two athletes in the nation to run in the 47s. The next Marylander to cross the finish line was Manchester Valley's Carter Knox. Knox took home a sixth-place finish after a season-best of 51.51, which is a new MD #9. Another notable performance came from Gaithersburg's Maximillian Lee with a top 15 finish and MD #18 of 53.44

Urbana's Sofia Cedrone set the pace for Maryland athletes. She had a top 15 performance of 1:02.29, which is a top 10 time in the state

Distance

800 Meter Run

For the boys, there were seven elite performances from Maryland. Manchester Valley's Aiden Neal led Marylanders with a third-place finish of 1:58.85. His performance is an MD #4 and ranks within the top 25 in the nation. The second Maryland athlete to cross the finish line was Gaithersburg's Sadou Sow with an impressive fifth-place finish and time of 2:00.15, just short of breaking the 2-minute margin. However, he now boasts an MD #7 in the event. Oakland Mills' Ethan Aidam was the last Marylander to break into the top 10 for the meet with a ninth-place finish of 2:01.58. This performance puts him at #8 in the state. Four more Maryland athletes finished within the top 25 for the event and now rank within the top 25 in the state: Urbana's Chris Sappe (MD #11, 2:03.16); Gaithersburg's Jose Ramirez (MD #14, 2:05.45); Manchester Valley's Christian Childs (MD #19, 2:07.97); and Urbana's Markus Hobson-Garcia (MD #25, 2:09.07)

Urbana's Camryn Lowery ran an impressive 2:25.96 at the meet to take seventh in the event. To add, her performance serves as an MD #8. Another Maryland athlete raced well in the event; Oakland Mill's Frankie Moore had a top 15 performance at the meet with a time of 2:31.89, which is a top 20 performance in the state. Both girls had elite performances. 

1 Mile Run

Once again, Manchester Valley's Aiden Neal had a top performance. This time, it was in the 1-mile event. Neal won the event in a blistering 4:17.13, which is a new MD #1 and  US #4. Most notably, as a hypothetical, if all 1600m times in Maryland were converted to the 1-mile distance, Neal would be first (and seventh in the US). Another Maryland athlete that showed off was Oakland Mills' Ethan Aidam. Aidam finished seventh in the event with a time of 4:26.92, which is an MD #2 and top 30 time in the nation. The third Maryland finisher to impress was Gaithersburg's Sadou Sow. Sow had a top 15 finish in the event with a time of 4:40.21, which is a new MD #3.

For the girls, Oakland Mills' Frankie Moore had another top performance as a Marylander. Moore finished within the top 15 with a new MD #1 of 5:31.59. Manchester Valley's Rubie Goffena followed close behind with a top 20 finish and new MD #2 of 5:35.95.


3000 Meter Run 

Three athletes represented the state with top 25 performances in the 3000m event. The first Maryland athlete to cross the line was Urbana's Henry Rodrigues with a season-best of 9:46.64, which is an MD #4. Oakland Mill's Donovan Lawson was the next Maryland with a time of 9:50.18, which is an MD #5. The final top 25 performance came from Manchester Valley's Patrick Ziegenfuss with a time of 9:50.69, which is an MD #6


Field Events

High Jump

Oakland Mills' Aki Harvey set a new MD #11 of 5-9, while teammate Kylik Perry set a new MD #18 of 5-7. Both marks are considered elite performances. 

Manchester Valley's Carrie Moore had an impressive top 10 finish in the event. She faced a new season-best of 4-11, which is a current MD #7. Other elite performances came from Oakland Mills' Alicia Hall (MD #14, 4-9); Manchester Valley's Bethany Kleiner (MD #14, 4-9); and Urbana's Lilly Eichelberger (4-7). 

Long Jump 

Oakland Mill's Kanye Holland finished fifth overall with a new MD #6 of 20-07.75. Teammate Kylik Perry set a new MD #8 of 20-04.00.

Triple Jump 

Oakland Mills' Kanye Holland had another top performance. This time, he won the triple jump event with a season-best of 44-00.25. His performance is a new MD #2. Oakland Mills' Kylik Perry finished in eight with a new MD #6 of 40-06.25.

Urbana's Janine Amefia set a new MD #5 in the triple jump event after a season-best of 32-8.25 at the meet. 

Shot put 

Gaithersburg's Neil Telfer finished fourth in the event with a season-best of 44-01.25, which is a top 15 performance in the state

Urbana's Samantha Heyison represented Maryland well with a second-place finish in the event. Her performance of 31-4.75 is a top 20 performance in the state

Pole Vault 

Oakland Mills' Rosalie Rosenberg had an impressive top 5 performance at the meet of 9-0. This performance is also a tie for an MD #7. Other elite performances came from Manchester Valley's Sara Moore (MD #12, 8-6) and Urbana duo Nia Kombe-Jarvis (MD #17, 8-0) and Sammi Scates (MD #17, 8-0). 

Relays

4x200 Meter Relay

The Oakland Mills boys won the event with a new MD #2 of 1:31.31, which is a top 15 time in the nation. Manchester Valley followed behind in a top 15 performance at the meet with a time of 1:38.99. This relay time is a top 20 time within the state.

It was an extremely close battle for the girls. Gaithersburg and Oakland Mills battled one another for a top ranking in the state. However, the Gaithersburg girls managed to outkick the Oakland Mills relay team for the win. Gaithersburg finished ninth with a time of 1:51.58, which is an MD #5. The Oakland Mills girls finished right behind with a tenth-place finish of 1:51.70, which is an MD #6.

4x400 Meter Relay

The Manchester Valley boys and the Gaithersburg boys both boasted impressive relay times. The Manchester Valley relay team finished third with a time of 3:33.62, which is an MD #3. The Gaithersburg boys finished eight with a time of 3:36.45, which is an MD #4.

For the girls, the Oakland Mills team had a top 10 performance in the state with a time of 4:24.81. 

4x800 Meter Relay 

The Manchester Valley girls finished within the top 15 for the meet after a time of 10:33.27, which is an MD #7.
