Week in Review: Maryland HS Indoor Track, Jan. 1 to Jan. 9


Over 50+ different teams across Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina came together for 2022 Liberty Premier InvitationalThe meet was hosted by Liberty University at their Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, Virginia. 

Sprints

55 Meter Dash
Northern-Calvert's Tyler Baskett represented Maryland in the 55m event. Baskett had a season-best performance of 6.79, which is a top 30 time in the state. His teammate, Nathan Jacobs, finished with a time of 6.93.

The top Maryland finisher was yet another Northern-Calvert athlete. This time, it was Leah Powell with a season-best of 7.37, which is a current MD #5. The next Maryland finisher was Damascus' Lauryn Clarke with a time of 7.65, which is a top 10 performance in the state. The rest of her teammates followed close behind: Gracie Emerick (MD #15, 7.65); Malaika Habib (MD #18, 7.67); and Elsie Habib (7.91). All five girls had elite performances. 


300 Meter Dash

Damascus' Lauryn Clarke had another top performance. She ran a season-best of 42.05, which is her second top 10 performance in the state from this meet. 

500 Meter Dash 

Northern-Calvert's Justin Dowell ran a new MD #15 of 1:09.70 at the meet.

Distance

1000 Meter Run 

Calvert's Jack Hartsig ran a new MD #4 of 2:47.28 in the event and broke his school's 1k record in the process.

1600 Meter Run 

Once again, Calvert's Jack Hartsig led Maryland athletes in a distance event. This time, Hartsig finished within the top 10 at the meet with a new indoor PR of 4:35.72, which is an MD #11. Northern-Calvert's Gavin Stevens trailed behind with a top 15 finish of 4:39.27. His performance is a top 15 time in the state. The third Maryland finisher was Damascus' Josiah Lim in a time of 4:50.86, which is a top 30 time in the state

3200 Meter Run

For the 3200m event, Calvert's David Rodenhaver was the first Maryland finisher. Rodenhaver finished with a season-best of 10:26.69, which is a top 30 performance in the state. Damascus' Josiah Lim finished with a near top 20 finish of 10:41.76.

On the girls' side, Northern-Calvert's Gentry Bowie finished tenth with a time of 12:09.09. This performance is an MD #13

Hurdles

55 Meter Hurdles

Northern-Calvert duo Ragiariki Lewis and Cason Bradford represented Maryland in the 55m hurdles event. Lewis finished in a time of 8.73, while Bradford finished in a time of 8.82. Both performances rank within the top 25 in the state


Field Events

High Jump 

Northern-Calvert's Daniel Cooley finished fifth in the high jump event after a performance of 5-6. Cooley is tied for a top 20 performance in the nation. 

Pole Vault

Damascus' Gracie Emerick had a top 10 finish in the event with a height of 10-0. This performance is an MD #5. 

Shot Put

Huntingtown's Adam Szatanek won the shot put event with a season-best of 51-7. This performance is an MD #2

Relays

4x200 Meter Relay

The Northern-Calvert boys had a top-five finish at the meet, as well as a new MD #5 of 1:34.50The Damascus girls had a top-five finish at the meet, as well as a new MD #3 of 1:47.65 

4x400 Meter Relay

The Northern-Calvert boys won the 4x4 event with a season-best of 3:34.76, which is an MD #4. Their girls' relay finished within the top five after a solid performance of 4:14.58, which is an MD #2

4x800 Meter Relay

The Northern-Calvert team continued to dominate all of the relays. This time, they finished fifth with a time of 10:11.23, which is an MD #3
