Similar to the girls 1A team battle, there was a battle brewing between Catoctin and Smithsburg leading up to the day of the races. Snow Hill took home the first victory of the day on the boys' side in the 4x800m winning by over 11 seconds to take home the win in a time of 9:03.67. Catoctin proceeded to have a dominant showing in the 300m with Brody Buffington and Furious Trammel going 1-2 for the Cougars and Cameron Rejonis, a dominant middle-distance 1A runner for years, coming in 3rd. John Condon of Cambridge South Dorchester battled it out with Day Leone of Bohemia Manor in the 1600m with Condon pulling away narrowly over Leone to be crowned his first indoor state title. The 500m consisted of Rejonis defending his middle-distance dominance taking home the win and being the only runner under 1:13 on the day. The 55mh hurdles were taken by Mardela athlete Jaden Shelton who set a new 1A indoor record in the prelims of 7.63 and won the finals by almost a second. The 55m was almost taken by Shelton as well if it weren't for Brody Buffington securing his 2nd win at the state meet in a blazing 6.56m at the Armory. Leone was once again met with resistance in the 3200m attempting to capture his first state title of the meet as Sean Milligan of Smithsburg closed out the final laps to secure his first state title in the 3200m. The 4x200m relay was taken by Francis Scott Key followed closely by Brunswick and Smithsburg in 2nd and 3rd. In the 800m, we saw a battle of speed vs. distance as Rejonis went up against Condon with Rejonis nearly sneaking away with the victory in a time of 2:06.43. To close out the meet, Catoctin took home the win in the 4x400m challenged by South Carroll in 2nd and Brunswick in 3rd. The high jump saw two Clear Spring athletes Tyler Josenhans and Benjamin Hinz go 1-2 securing their first 1st and 2nd place finishes at a state meet, while the pole vault was won by Peyton Thomas of South Carroll by over 2 feet, with distance harrier John Condon securing 2nd in the event. Another South Carroll athlete Nathan Fields saw success in the field events as Nathan Fields took home the shotput win very narrowly over Bryce Purnell of Snow Hill. The team race was close but it ended up being your Catoctin cougars taking home the win just 9 points over 2nd place Smithsburg.
