GIBBONS SWEEPS THE CARVER RELAYS

On the eve of the first MIAA B Conference Group Meet of the 2005 Track & Field season, Cardinal Gibbons gave their head coach Donald Davis a birthday present by sweeping all eight events and easily dominating the Carver Relays, yesterday afternoon.

The Crusaders, who are seeking their fourth consecutive B Conference team title this spring, appear to be as strong as ever, and proved it yesterday.

The team of Cory Robinson, Antwarn Jones, Jason Lide and Vincent Mercer won two relays at Carver, taking the 4x100 in 45.78 and the 4x200 in 1:37.35. Kevin Peace and Cortez Washington teamed with Barry Nowell and Jason Campbell to win the 4x400 (3:39) for Gibbons, then Lorenzo Dennis and Stefen Harriday joined Peace and Washington to take the Sprint Medley (4:11.87).

In the Distance Medley, Connor Scott, Campbell, Matt Takovich and Danny Spafford posted a winning time of 13:02, then Rob Lewis joined Scott, Takovich and Spafford to win the 4x800, in 10:15.

Gibbons then capped the day off with victories in both field relays. Dennis, Nowell and Jones won the Long Jump Relay with a distance of 57\'-9-1/2\", while Shelby Fisher, Rodney Lewis and Matt Eckholm set a meet record in winning the Shot Put Relay with a distance of 109\'-1-1/2\".

\"My kids gave me the perfect birthday gift,\" said Davis, who also heads the Gibbons\' varsity football program. \"This was big for our kids, we were the runner up last year.\"
