The outdoor season is rolling along, and Maryland athletes continue to produce some of the best performances in the country. This past weekend, while some athletes stayed local and went head-to-head with regional talent, a few opted to head out West to the Arcadia Invitational.
Here are 10 of the top Maryland athletes from last week.
The freshman went to one of the most competitive invitationals in the country and came back with the top marks in Maryland in both the 100m and 200m. Her 11.27 and 23.17 are state leads by a significant margin, produced against a national-caliber field.
Anthony Mason (Crofton, 2027):
His 181-1 best in the discus leads the state and ranks among the better marks in the country this spring. Mason also sits second in Maryland in the shot put at 54-4.
Kennedy Brown (Bullis School, 2027):
Brown's 54.58 in the 400m is the second-fastest time in Maryland this spring and holds up on the national scene, too. She ran it while placing second at Acadia, backing up her early season sub-54 performance.
Jack Fiening (Walter Johnson, 2027):
The junior is one of the top distance runners statewide in both the 800m and the 1600m, running 1:54.89 and 4:29.54, respectively.
Destiny Fruge (Bullis School, 2027):
Fruge's 2:14.74 in the 800m leads Maryland and makes her the only girl int he state this season to run sub-2:15.
Keegan Slonski (Poolesville, 2027):
His 38.67 in the 300mH is tied for the top mark in the state, and his 15.25 in the 110mH places him in the top ten as well.
Teagan Bandholz (Poolesville, 2026):
Bandholz leads Maryland in both the shot put and the discus, throwing 42-11 and 132-6. She has been the most productive throws athlete in the state through the first few weeks of the season, and she's got her sights set on a pair of state titles coming up.
Rah'zir Wilson (Kent County, 2026):
Wilson cleared 6-9 in the high jump, a mark that leads the state and stands among the better clearances in the country this spring so far. He also appears in the Maryland top ten of the 100m.
Dana Doubek (Broadneck Senior, 2027):
Doubek's 12-1 leads Maryland in the pole vault and puts her clear of the rest of the state's vaulters right now. She produced that mark in the first weeks of the season, too, which leaves plenty of time to move up in the all-time state rankings, where she's currently tied for No. 11.
Cameron Homer (Bullis School, 2027):
Homer's 21.60 in the 200m is the third-fastest mark in the state this spring, run against a national field at Arcadia. Given the excellent track record of the Bullis program, we'll more than likely see his times improve and his name pop up here.
