A Championship Monday to Remember

On Monday, January 24, 2006, the Montgomery County Championships and Baltimore County Championships took place. Many athletes did extremely well, and represented their schools with great times. mdrunners.com would like to recognize the \"Athletes of the Meet\", followed by a recap of both championships in the main article.

Montgomery County Champs:
Girls Athlete of the Meet: Audrey Gariepy of Winston Churchill
Audrey Gariepy completed a feat many of us only dream of: Winning four out of four events you enter in any meet, let alone the County Championship meet. Gariepy won the 55 hurdles (8.54), High Jump (5 feet, 4 inches), Long Jump (16 feet, 4 inches), and the Triple Jump (34 feet, 3.25 inches, also a county meet record). Gariepy scored 40 points, contributing almost 40% of her teams points en route to their victory.

Boys AotM: Bret Ligon of RM
Bret Ligon competed in 3 individual events, winning two and barely placing second in the other. Ligon won the 500m in a smoking 1:05.98 (4th on the entire Milesplit network), the 800m in 2:03.55, and got 2nd in the 300 by a hundredth of a second (35.5). Ligon helped his team win the team title by scoring 28 points.

Baltimore County Champs:
Girls AotM: Kristen Malloy (Hereford)
Kristen Malloy competed in 3 individual events, winning 2 of them and placing in another. Malloy won the 1600m run in 5:17.4, then won the 3200m in 11:33.7. She then scored 2 more points for her team in the 800m, placing 5th in 2:37.9.

Boys AotM: Dwight Parker (Woodlawn)
Dwight Parker continued his fantastic season on Monday by winning 3 individual county crowns, and leading his team to the Baltimore County crown. Parker won the 800m in 2:06.1, the 1600m in 4:44.2, and the 3200m in 10:26.3. All are fantastic times for the not-so-lovely Armory flooring.
