ANNAPOLIS, Md.– The Tigers
opened the indoor track season Thursday night at the Navy Lidlifter Invitational,
competing against five other schools and finishing second overall as a team with 33 points. The host Naval Academy finished in first place with 71 points

received excellent season-opening performances from Kaylin Gilmartin-Donohue, who finished won the mile event with a time of 5:11.54 and Shianna Smith, who won the 20-lb. weight throw. Her throw of 16.81 meters was followed closely by teammate Shannel Shivers, who placed third in the event with a throw of 15.09 meters.
"We have a young team and it's a bit of an unknown," Towson Coach Roger Erricker said. "I thought we had some good performances and it was encouraging. It was an overall good day."
Towson's Katie Salke led the way for the Tigers in the 60-meter hurdles, as the team earned three of the top five finishers in the event. Salke finished in second place with a run of 9.19 seconds, while Kamilah Browne also scored a point in fourth place with her 9.23 time. Maya Hinton ran fifth with a time of 9.42 seconds for the Tigers.
Towson will return to the track Dec.10, when the team will travel to Princeton.
