4/1 Weekend Review

4/1 Weekend Review

This was an exciting weekend for the state of Maryland! It featured a new meet (Pikesville Track Classic), a cool new event (1500m Steeple at Woodward Relays), the return of a star (Alison Smith - 2:18 800 at PTC), and many meet records (Jeremy Samuels - DeMatha 48.26 400m MRW Meet; Warren Gray, Oxon Hill 46-9.25 Triple MRW, Christy Johnson - Bryn Mawr - 4:59.86 1600m MRW) to name three. Maryland even dominated many events at a Northern Virginia meet!

MRW NoVa Meet:
As mentioned above, many fantastic times were put up at this race, maybe none as fantastic as senior Christy Johnson of Bryn Mawr breaking 5 minutes in the 1600m. She also clocked a 2:16.98 800m, beating fellow stateswomen Dominique Lockhart and Marika Walker of ER. Dominique Lockhart of ER ran an 11:21 3200m, and Tashima Stevens of ER took home a silver medal in the 200m with a time of 58.9. Roosevelt\'s 4x4 team set a meet record with a time of 3:55.27!

On the boys side, Kelli Thibou won the 800m with a time of 1:57.64, beating out Dwight Parker of Woodlawn who ran 1:58.85. Jeremy Samules of DeMatha took hom the 400 title in 48.26. Rob Wetzel of Archbishop Spalding did an amazing job in the 3200, running 9:35.57. DeMatha\'s Geoffrey Daley dominated the Hurdle events, winning the 110H in 14.45 and the 300H in 39.25. ER\'s 4x8 team ran an impressive 8:11 in taking the gold medal. Warren Gray of Oxon Hill set the triple jump meet record with a 46 foot, 9.25 inch jump.

Woodward Relays:
A number of runners took part in perhaps the coolest event of the day, the 1500m Steeplechase. Ashlyn Sinclair won the girls race in 5:14, while Will Palmer of Whitman triumphed in the boys race with a time of 4:40. Some elite times on the day were the Winston Churchill Girls 4x4 (4:07) and 4x8 (9:46), Whitman Girls DMR (13:30), RM boys 4x4 (3:30), BCC boys 4x1600 (19:05), Kennedy boys HJ Relay (17-02), and Gaithersburg\'s LJ Relay (60-03.50). The Winston Churchill Women won with 56 points, while the Gaithersburg Boys won with 72 points.

Pikesville Track Classic:
The Inaugural Meet was a huge success, boasting alot of talent from all over the state. The best girls performances came from Michelle Donadio of Franklin and Nicole Robinson of Atholton. Donadio won both the 1600 (5:17) and the 3200 (11:34). Robinson took home three medals, winning the 100 Hurdles in 14.91 and silver medalling in the 300 Hurdles (46.2) and the long jump (15-10). The boys standout performers were Andrew Revelle of Atholton, Damien Kinchen of Annapolis, and Chris Mcintosh of Franklin. All 3 took home 2 victories. Revelle won the 1600 in 4:24.3 and the 800 in 2:00.13. Kinchen won the Triple Jump at 43 feet and the Long Jump at 21 feet 3.5 inches. Mcintosh took home the gold in both hurdle events, winning the 110 in 14.30 and the 300 in 39.33. The Elizabeth Seton girls team made a strong statement in this meet, boasting a champion in the 100 meters and winning 4x1 and 4x2 relay teams. However, the Mervo Girls and Meade Boys prevailed in the team standings, with Mervo garnering 60 points and Meade earning 70.5 points.
