Highlights:
- South County senior Felecia Majors was leaped a US #1 mark of 19'11" in the long jump at the =PR= Holiday Invitational in Landover, Maryland. The mark places Majors at #6 on the Virginia high school all-time indoor list in the long jump. The rest of her day included a runner-up US #3 39'1" mark in the triple jump behind Brielyn Rogers (US #2 39'4.75") of Bishop McNamara with both runners breaking the old meet record.
- The Lake Braddock girls 4x800 meter relay featuring Foot Locker finalist Sophie Chase and Nike Cross Nationals individual qualifier Hannah Christen, clocked an impressive early season time in the relay event with a US #1 time of 9:25. Splits for Lake Braddock were Ally Robinson at 2:34, Chase at 2:15, Christen at 2:16, and Katie Roche at 2:17.
- Chantilly's Kendall Cowne successfully doubled in the distance races with first place finishes in both the 1600 (5:07.52) and 1000 (3:01.45) meter races. Cowne had a closely contested races in both events with Georgetown Visitation Prep's Emily Kaplan in the 1600 (5:07.74) and Midlothian's Tessa Riley (3:01.68) in the 1000. Cowne is one a handful of returning sub 5 minute 1600 meter runners in Virginia and appears not far from that top form in her first invitiational of the track season.
- The Osbourn Park girls went 1-2 in the 55 meter dash with freshmen Alexys Taylor edging out her junior teammate Kiana Hairston with a VA #3 indoor performance of 7.22, while Hairston posted a VA #4 clocking of 7.25. The state of Virginia has had some impressive freshmen girls sprinters in recent years and Taylor just adds to that line and could see herself running closer to 7 seconds flat by season's end.
- James Robinson junior Kacey Wheeler spoiled another 1-2 finish from Osbourn Park's Taylor (2nd, 42.13) and Hairston (3rd, 42.30) in the girls 300 with Wheeler improving from her seed time of 42.50 with a 41.73 victory.
- The Woodbridge girls 4x200 meter relay proved they can run just as fast indoors as well with accurate fully automatic timing. After running a 1:43.9 hand-held time outdoors at the Centreville Winter Challenge earlier this season, the Woodbridge girls rolled to a US #3 and meet record 1:43.92 performance in the 4x200, which is the fastest in the nation on a flat track behind only two times posted on the fast banked track at the New York Armory.
- Two legs of the Woodbridge 4x200 were some of the state's top individual performers in their respective events on Saturday with Olivia Copwood clearing the hurdles the fastest in a 8.65 clocking, while Jewel Christian was top performer from Virginia in the 500 meter dash with a personal best time of 1:18.20 for third place.
- Mustaqeem Williams of Forest Park was a little slower on the camera than on the watch in the 55 meter dash at PG. Williams clocked a 6.0 hand-held time (converts to 6.24 FAT) in a home polar bear meet, but was over two tenths slower in a US #6 clocking of 6.48 (FAT) at the =PR= Holiday Invite which ties him for second fastest (FAT only) in Virginia. Williams came back shortly thereafter in the 4x200 meter relay with the rest of Forest Park sprinting quartet without their full "A" team to best Western Branch's VA #1 time earlier in the day at Boo Williams (1:31.99) to move to the top of the state indoor leaderboard at a US #4 time of 1:31.74.
- Forest Park's Williams picked up his third win of the meet to wrap up his day in the 300 meter dash with a state best performance of 35.41, which ranks the returning Group AAA state 55 meter dash champion at #8 indoors in the United States.
- Central Region cross country runner-up Sean Willard of Midlothian was able to win the 1600 meter run in Landover against Northwest Region runner-up Andrew Gaiser (4:28.92) of Forest Park with time of 4:25.82, but just missed the state qualifier of 4:25.20. With a 4:20 1600 personal best, Willard became an All-State runner in cross country for the first time this past fall and has a goal to become a two-time All-State individual this indoor track season.
- Liberty District cross country champ Matthew Calem of James Madison ran a new PR right out of the gate in the 1000 meter run with a 2:35.38 victory in the =PR= Holiday Invitational to get state qualified, while runner-up Josh Willard (2:35.96) just missed the auto standard of 2:35.68 in second place. Calem is coming off a strong finish to his cross country season with top 15 state meet finish in the Group AAA and 15:48 5K PR at Foot Locker South.
- Thomas Edison's Jennifer Flack was caught in the final lap last week at CNU in the 3200 meter run after leading for the majority of the race. She made sure this weekend, the competition was nowhere near her with a lap to go and improved 3 seconds from her CNU race with a personal best 11:07.24 performance and 14 second margin of victory.
- Gar-Field senior Naihla Rose-Delia was flirting with a mark at 40 feet or better in the shot put as she was clearly on another level than the rest of competition with her mark of 39'7.50" putting her nearly six feet ahead of the runner-up thrower.
- Nick Tuck of Lake Braddock was one of 8 runners under 10 minutes in the boys 3200 at the =PR= Holiday Invitational, but the only runner able to achieve the Group AAA state auto qualifier of 9:38.51 with his winning time of 9:35.75 for this fall's Group AAA state cross country runner-up.
- The Westfield boys were one of the state's best last year in both the 4x800 and 4x400 meter relays including a Penn Relays Championships of America victory in the 4x800. This year's relays may not be as fast, but will be formidable and among the state's elite as shown with state auto qualifying wins in the 4x800 (8:06.65) and 4x400 (3:29.44). Their 4x800 time of 8:06 is the new state leader and ranks them US #3.
- Midlothian's WIll Kendall struggled to clear 6 feet in many meets last year in the high jump, but is well beyond those heights this season. Already having cleared 6'4" in a polar bear meet, Kendall went an inch higher to edge out South County's Joseph Boyd (6'4") with a new personal best clearance of 6'5".
- Oakton senior Lucas Wratschko raised the bar for himself to 14'6" in the pole vault to establish a new meet record and personal best for himself.
- West Springfield went 1-2 in the long jump with seniors Nathan Conquest (1st, 20'9") and Cru Ullian (2nd, 20'5.50"). It was Ullian's first mark over 20 feet.
