Northwest Region Meet Summary MileSplit Staff Feb 24, 2006

Coming off tired legs the night before in a Northwest Region girls\' basketball semifinal game, Brooke Point junior April Sinkler showed no effects of having ran up and down a court the night before as she won three regional titles in the jumping events at the Northwest Region Meet to help propel the Brooke Point girls to the regional team crown. Sinkler took first in the high jump (5\'6\"), long jump (17\'11.50\"), and triple jump (36\'8.50\"). For the second consecutive year, the Hilltoppers of E.C. Glass were Northwest Region boys\' team champions as wins by Michael Zajac in the shot (56\'4\"), Carlton Phipps in the 500 meter dash (1:06.08), and Daniel Inge in the pole vault (12\'0\"). In the boys\' 1600 meter run, Colonial Forge\'s Dan Leyh broke a meet record that had stood since 1979 with a 4:19.03 win in the race. Leyh also was a member of the meet record shattering 4x800 meter relay team (8:02.12). More to come..
