State Leaderboard Rewritten @ Moco Invitational Jason Byrne Jan 12, 2008

It was a night of great performances at the PG Center.  The state leaders list was basically rewritten with 9 Maryland #1 girls marks and 6 on the boys side. Louise Hannallah was probably the performer of the night for Maryland, she helped her team to a US #5 4x800 with a time of 9:34.10, placed 6th in the mile (5:16.99), and then came back to take second in the 3200m (11:23.13).But the most exciting finish came in a battle royale between Morgane Gay and Alex Doll in the Girls Mile.  Gay closed hard on Doll who had a big lead with 400 to go, kicking her down to the line she came away with a victory on the lean in 5:08.48, with Doll, the Chevy Chase freshman, just .05 back! With Millrose Mile invitations on the line and intense competition from some of Maryland and Pennsylvania's best milers, the state of Virginia had a dominant showing in the elite mile race at the Montgomery Invitational in Landover, Maryland on Saturday. Blacksburg senior Peter Dorrell (pictured left by John Herzog) led a top three sweep of Virginians in the boys' mile race with a 4:16.81 victory. Dorrell had been considered a pre-race favorite, so his win was not nearly as a surprise to have two other Virginians finish right behind him under 4:20 to best the remainder of the field in Oakton senior Joe Lorusso (2nd, 4:17.83) and Orange County senior Logan Collins (3rd, 4:18.55). 6 Sub 4:20 milers featured in Saturday\'s Montgomery Invite MileSplit Staff Jan 8, 2008

Photo by John Herzog The invite mile race at Saturday's Montgomery Invitational in Landover, Maryland is not an automatic qualifier for the Millrose Games high school mile. But when a total of six sub 4:20 milers get together, the winning performance is bound to have at least one runner Madison Square Garden-bound.  Peter Dorrell leads a solid group of Virginians in the 15 person field as two-time state champion at 1600 meters with a 4:15 best against a talented contigent of runners from outside of Virginia.
