Open Boys Race
The state of Maryland had 3 of the top 6 finishers in the open race at NXN Southeast including two from Montgomery County with Winston Churchill's Mitchell Welter taking runner-up in the race with a time of 16:24. Arguably Welter's best race since his sub 16 minute PR run at the Montgomery County Championships.
Welter was trailed through the finish chute by a familiar competitor in Quince Orchard senior Liam Walsh in fifth place with a time of 16:31, while Northern-Calvert junior Charlie Sweeney is setting himself up to be one of the top returnees next fall in 3A after his sixth place 16:35 effort down in Cary, North Carolina.
Severna Park's "B" squad finished 6th in the open race team scoring as their depth was once again on display with 5 runners in the race under 17:30, who were not on the line with their varsity lineup later in the championship race.
