Vote below for Maryland's Week #1 Boys XC Team of the Week from the September 3rd weekend of meets to kick off the 2016 cross country season. This initial week of nominees includes Liberty, Oakdale, Good Counsel, South River and Loyola-Blakefield.

The Oakdale boys kicked off their season with a win in the large school division at Saturday's Interstate Classic at Clear Spring High School. The Bears were led by freshman Collin Shrinner, who finished fourth in the division; overall, they placed four in the top eight of the large school division. With the additions of Shrinner and fellow freshman Collin Dempsey, the Oakdale boys look like an emerging contender in the 3A classification.

The Liberty boys took care of business at the Brunswick Invitational at Brunswick High School. With four runners finishing in the top ten of the large school division, the defending 2A state champions looked strong against some solid competition, including potential 4A contender Northwest.

Heavy graduation losses didn't seem to hurt the Good Counsel boys in their season debut at the Chancellor Invitational in Virginia. Led by senior Jimmy Vazzana, they finished second in the large field, retaining their status as one of the top private school programs in Maryland.

Nick Boogades and the South River boys started the 2016 season in style on their home course at Saturday's Seahawk Invite. They impressed with a close runner-up team finish in the loaded field, beating some of the top teams in Maryland from last year including Mount St. Joe's and River Hill.

The Loyola-Blakefield boys got their season underway a bit early this year at Friday's Mustang Invitational at C. Milton Wright High School. Max Barbour led the Dons to a victory, posting a 10:00 time over the two-mile course. They appear to have another impact freshman with them this year in Paul MacDonald who finished sixth with a 10:30 mark.
