After sweeping the Bayside Championships, the boys and girls from Kent Island were back at it again Thursday at the 2A East Regionals. Juniors Brandon Nichols and Erick Sanchez once again led the way with a 1-2 finish 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. With five runners in the top 15 the Buccaneers picked up their sixth 2A East title in the past seven years (Fallston won last season).

The Fallston boys were led by freshman Giles Daly's fourth-place finish en route to finishing second overall in the team scores. Elkton, Harford Tech, North Caroline and Queen Anne's were the four remaining teams to advance to the 2A State Championships. Wicomico's Braxton Clark was the only individual qualifier.

The Kent Island girls also featured a strong duo; senior Amanda Fine and sophomore Molly Connelly finished in 20:23 and 20:32, respectively, as no other girl crossed the line under 21 minutes. However, they couldn't overcome their large 1-5 scoring spread, as they fell to second place with 70 points.

The Rising Sun girls took full advantage, led by their senior sisters Arianna (fifth place) and Emma (sixth) Wheeler. Their top six girls all finished in the top 20 and they captured the region title, edging Kent Island with 57 points.

North Caroline and Queen Anne's were the two other state qualifying girls teams. Fallston's Nicole Hondrogiannis, Easton's Claire Dowd and Annie Ray and North East's Yailynn Ramirez advanced as individuals.
