The Top Five Returning Girls Track Athletes Heading Into 2017

Sydney Williams (Senior, Henry E. Lackey)

A state-class athlete in both the sprints and the hurdles, Williams enters her senior season with six state titles already under her belt. Three of those came at last year's 2A outdoor state championships where she won the 200 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. She competed at New Balance Nationals during both the indoor season (60 meter hurdles) and outdoor season (100 meter hurdles) last year as a junior.

Her most impressive personal best came in the 55 meter hurdles last year when she clocked a MD #2 time of 8.05 at the PG County Invitational. That performance was good for #4 in the database since 2000, during which time only two girls have dipped under eight seconds in the event. It is also faster than the 2A indoor state meet record, which she did not break last winter. With one perfect race this season Williams could hurdle the three girls ahead of her and into the Maryland record books.

WATCH Williams clock one of her faster 55 meter hurdle races last season: 8.17 in a win at the SMAC Championships!
