Maryland State Meet Thursday Previews: 3200s

2A Boys 3200

WATCH LIVE!

Could a freshmen state champion be crowned in the 2A boys 3200 meter race? It is very possible with the likes of Calvert's Justin Diehl in the race as one of the fastest entrants owning a 9:46.11 PR. Two of the top three fastest runners this spring in 2A are actually freshmen between the 2A South champion Diehl and Liberty's Daniel Saxon (9:54.77).

2015 cross country state champion Brian Cave of South Carroll is finally dropping some track times to match up with his XC success after running a 9:46 3200 at the end of April at the Gator Invitational. Cave led a very deep 2A West Regional, which saw a total of 6 guys break 10 minutes, winning in a time of 9:53.

Potentially someone from that sub 10 pack at 2A West could breakthrough and surprise at the state meet including Joey Navarro of Oakland Mills, Paul Slotwinski of Catoctin, Nick Tilson of Liberty, Theo Johnson of Century, and Ryan Rippeon of Francis Scott Key. Johnson is also another sub 10 minute freshmen in the field, while Tilson is a darkhorse pick as a two-time state runner-up in cross country that plays baskeball during the winter months.
