3A State Recap: Cummins First Freshman Winner In Four Years

3A Boys Recap

The boys race was much closer and much more dramatic. By their first time down the dip and into the woods the front pack had been whittled down to just four: Poolesville's Ryan Lockett and Andrew Lent, Linganore's Micah Hewitson and River Hill's Rahul Reddy. Coming back up the dip, Reddy challenged Lockett for the lead, but the Poolesville junior simply would not let go.

The two regional champions battled each other all the way to the finish, but it was ultimately Lockett who created just a bit of separation - enough for the title. His winning time of 16:00 was the second-fastest of the day, only behind Smithsburg's Will Merritt. Reddy, Hewitson and Lent rounded out the top four runners. The River Hill boys had little problem defending their state title for the third year in a row, and were also the top-ranked team when results of all classifications were combined.
