4A North is about to get a lot more interesting as both the Montgomery Blair and Urbana girls teams will enter in 2017. The Blair girls, led by rising seniors Morgan Casey and Josephine Brane-Wright, finished eighth at the 4A state meet last year; Urbana finished 15th in 3A, but with better health were capable of a lot more. Given that none of the exiting teams boasted great girls teams in 2016 (though Bel Air did finish in the top 20 at the state meet) the region overall should be much stronger in 2017.
On the boys side there won't be a chance for a rematch between the top three runners from last year's meet. Bel Air's Kieran McDermott will go back to where he started his career - 3A North - leaving Dulaney's Matt Owens and Howard's Nick Deamer as the top returners. They will be joined by strong newcomers in Urbana's Nathan Davis (eighth at the 3A state meet) and Northwood's Obsaa Feda (22nd in 4A); as with the girls, the team races should be more dramatic as all three newcomers will potentially be stronger than Digital Harbor, Kenwood and Parkville.
